Our Process: From Moment to Garment
Purposeful Design, Thoughtful Execution

Storywear™ is built on the belief that moments deserve care. The way stories are chosen matters as much as how apparel is designed. Our process is guided by respect for individuals, for the Spartan community, and for the responsibility that comes with telling real experiences.

The From Moment to Garment process outlines how an idea becomes a finished piece of Storywear™ — ensuring that each step reflects integrity, quality, and alignment with licensing and compliance standards.

This process is not rushed. It is structured, collaborative, and designed to protect the trust placed in the Spartan name.

Step 1: Identifying a Moment That Moved Us

Every Spartan™ designs begin with a moment — not a trend.

Moments may include:

  • Historic achievements or milestones
  • Pivotal events that shaped the Spartan community
  • Stories of perseverance, leadership, or unity
  • Traditions that define the MSU experience

Each moment is selected with care, ensuring it is appropriate, respectful, and aligned with the values of Michigan State University.

Moments are chosen not for shock value or controversy, but for their ability to connect generations of Spartans through shared pride and memory.

Once a moment is identified, it enters a research phase.

This includes:

  • Verifying historical accuracy
  • Understanding cultural and community significance
  • Ensuring respectful representation
  • Evaluating appropriateness for licensed apparel

This step ensures that every design is grounded in truth, context, and responsibility — avoiding misrepresentation or oversimplification.

Step 3: Translating Story Into Design

Storywear™ is not about placing text on fabric. It is about translating meaning into visual form.

Design development focuses on:

  • Clean, timeless aesthetics
  • Subtle storytelling elements
  • Respectful use of imagery and language
  • Long-term wearability

Designs are created to stand on their own visually, even without explanation. The goal is apparel that feels authentic, elevated, and worthy of the Spartan name.

Step 4: Inclusive Design Integration

Once a design concept is finalized, it is integrated across both traditional and adaptive garment options.

This step ensures:

  • Visual consistency across all versions
  • Seamless incorporation of adaptive features
  • Equal access to the same designs and stories

Adaptive considerations are built into the garment construction — not added after the fact. This ensures that functionality never compromises design integrity.

Step 5: Compliance & Licensing Review

Every Spartan™ treats licensing as a collaborative safeguard.

Before production, designs are reviewed to ensure:

  • Compliance with trademark usage guidelines
  • Alignment with university standards
  • Adherence to approved product categories
  • Consistency with licensing agreements

This step protects both the university and the brand, ensuring that all apparel meets required standards before entering the marketplace.

Step 6: Ethical Production & Quality Control

Approved designs move into production with a focus on responsibility and quality.

This includes:

  • Working with vetted manufacturing partners
  • Aligning with ethical labor expectations
  • Maintaining quality benchmarks across all garments
  • Conducting checks for consistency and durability

Every Spartan™ believes that how something is made matters just as much as what is made.

Step 7: Limited Release Strategy

Storywear™ is released through intentional, limited drops.

This approach:

  • Preserves the significance of each moment
  • Prevents overproduction
  • Encourages thoughtful purchasing
  • Maintains design integrity

Once a drop concludes, designs are retired — allowing each piece to remain connected to its specific moment in time.

Step 8: Story Access & Engagement

Many Every Spartan™ garments incorporate optional QR elements that link to digital storytelling experiences.

These experiences may include:

  • Historical context
  • Written narratives
  • Multimedia content
  • Educational or reflective materials

QR integration enhances engagement without distracting from the apparel itself. The garment remains the centerpiece; the story deepens the connection.

Step 9: Community Feedback & Reflection

Every Spartan™ views feedback as essential.

Post-release evaluation includes:

  • Listening to customer input
  • Reviewing fit, comfort, and functionality
  • Assessing storytelling effectiveness
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement

This feedback informs future designs and strengthens the brand’s ability to serve its community responsibly.

Step 10: Continuous Improvement

The From Moment to Garment process is not static.

As the brand grows, Every Spartan™ commits to:

  • Refining design practices
  • Expanding inclusive options
  • Enhancing storytelling experiences
  • Strengthening compliance and quality systems

Growth is guided by learning, accountability, and respect for the Spartan community.

A Founder’s Commitment

Every Spartan™ was founded by a lifelong Spartan, MSU alum, and business owner with a physical disability who understands — personally and professionally — the importance of inclusion.

This brand is not built from theory.
It’s built from lived experience.

It’s a commitment to ensuring that future generations of Spartans never have to ask whether apparel was designed with them in mind.

Because they already know the answer.

Why This Process Matters

Apparel carries meaning. When it bears a university’s name, that meaning carries weight. Every Spartan™ recognizes that responsibility and has built a process designed to honor it — from the first spark of an idea to the moment a garment is worn.

Every story begins with listening — to athletes, students, alumni, families, and fans. We look for moments that reflect perseverance, connection, growth, and community impact. The goal is not to create heroes, but to honor honest experiences that feel true to Spartan life.

The Every Spartan™ Standard

When a story involves identifiable individuals or teams, we seek permission and collaboration. Storywear™ is never built on assumptions. Participants review how their experience is described, and they remain partners in how it is presented. From Moment to Garment is more than a workflow.

Stories are revisited over time. If new perspectives emerge, we update them. If someone no longer wishes to participate, we listen. Storywear™ is not a static archive — it is a living conversation with the Spartan community.

Every Spartan. Every Ability. Every Moment.
